Business Incubator Mentor Session

SANZAF Empowers Entrepreneurs through Business Incubator Programme
The SANZAF Business Incubator Programme in Gqeberha continues to create pathways towards economic empowerment by equipping aspiring and existing entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to establish, grow and sustain successful businesses.
In June 2026, SANZAF welcomed its second intake of fourteen entrepreneurs, marking the beginning of an intensive 11-week business development journey. Through a structured learning programme with Regent Business School, participants explored essential aspects of entrepreneurship, including business idea generation, creativity, opportunity identification, business operations, marketing, financial management and business strategy. The programme also covered business model development, pitching techniques and the preparation of comprehensive business plans.
The 2026 cohort represents a diverse range of entrepreneurial ventures, spanning food production, agriculture, fashion, professional coaching, manufacturing, educational services, business compliance and family-focused hospitality. Each participant brings a unique business concept, with a shared ambition to turn their ideas into sustainable enterprises that can create opportunities for themselves and their communities.
From Learning to Practical Mentorship
Following the 11-week learning programme, participants progressed to the mentorship phase, where the focus shifts from theoretical knowledge to practical business development.
Through individual coaching, feedback on business concepts, guidance from experienced facilitators and peer learning opportunities, participants are supported in identifying challenges, refining their business models and developing practical solutions tailored to their circumstances.
As part of this mentorship journey, SANZAF recently hosted an engaging and interactive session facilitated by Tauriq Ally, owner and partner at Savtech, a technology company adopting an AI-first approach to business and innovation. Tauriq brings extensive experience in industrial automation and technology, having worked with companies including Volkswagen, Borbet, Shatterprufe and Bridgestone Firestone.
Drawing on his experience in technology and business, Tauriq guided participants through practical exercises designed to strengthen their entrepreneurial thinking, build confidence and demonstrate how emerging technologies can support business growth.
Putting Business Ideas to the Test
One of the highlights of the session was an exciting 60-second business pitching competition, which challenged participants to present their business ideas with clarity, confidence and conviction.
With just eight minutes to prepare, entrepreneurs were tasked with communicating what their businesses offer, the problems they aim to solve, their target markets and the investment needed to bring their ideas to life.
The pitches displayed the creativity and determination of the participants, with business concepts ranging from modest fashion and poultry farming to professional coaching, educational resources and innovative family-friendly services.
Participants and facilitators evaluated each pitch based on its clarity, credibility and conviction, creating an opportunity for constructive peer learning.
Beyond the friendly competition, the exercise encouraged entrepreneurs to think critically about their business offerings and develop the confidence to communicate their ideas to potential investors, customers and business partners.
Exploring the Power of AI in Business
Another key focus of the mentorship session was the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in entrepreneurship and how emerging businesses can use technology to improve their operations and decision-making.
Drawing on Savtech's AI-first approach, Tauriq demonstrated how entrepreneurs can use AI beyond everyday tasks such as writing emails and creating social media content. Participants explored practical applications for researching competitors, identifying potential customers, assessing business opportunities, developing marketing strategies and strengthening business plans.
Tauriq also introduced an AI-powered business planning toolkit he had developed to help entrepreneurs structure their ideas, understand their markets and prepare more comprehensive business plans.
Participants were further introduced to a cash-flow planning tool that demonstrated how forecasting income, expenses and operational costs over 12 to 24 months could help businesses anticipate financial challenges and plan for sustainable growth.
A key takeaway from Tauriq's presentation was that while technology can be a powerful resource, successful entrepreneurship still requires sound judgement, critical thinking and a clear understanding of one's business.
Learning Through Practical Mentorship
The session concluded with an insightful discussion and questions around funding requirements, product pricing, operational expenses, business expansion and financial planning.
The discussion emphasised the importance of understanding the true costs of running a business, identifying investments that support growth and developing realistic financial projections.
Participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained and begin refining their business plans in preparation for individual mentorship sessions, where they will receive more focused guidance tailored to their businesses.
Building Businesses, Creating Opportunities
Through its Business Incubator Programme, SANZAF aims to do more than simply help entrepreneurs establish businesses. The programme seeks to equip individuals with the skills, resources and guidance needed to create sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
By combining structured entrepreneurship education with practical mentorship and access to experienced business professionals, SANZAF continues to support individuals on their journey towards financial independence.
At the heart of this initiative is SANZAF's broader vision of empowering individuals to move from being recipients of Zakah assistance towards becoming self-sufficient and, ultimately, contributors of Zakah themselves.
As the 2026 cohort continues its entrepreneurial journey, the Business Incubator Programme demonstrates how education, mentorship and opportunity can work together to transform business ideas into sustainable enterprises, creating pathways towards lasting economic empowerment.
